Icelandic electronic music legends GusGus continue to captivate audiences with their creativity and vitality, even after nearly three decades on the scene. Founded by Biggi Veira and Daniel ĂgĂșst, the group has recently been joined by one of Icelandâs most talented vocalists â MargrĂ©t RĂĄn, known from the band VĂK.
The bandâs name refers to a line from a 1974 German film, in which one of the characters says âgusgusâ instead of âcouscous.â Although the group initially began as a film and acting collective, they soon shifted their focus entirely to music production. GusGus quickly gained recognition for their experimental approach to electronic music, blending elements of house, techno, trip-hop, and beyond.
Over the years, the groupâs lineup has evolved, featuring various vocalists â something the founders describe as a source of constant inspiration: âPerpetual change is one of the biggest drivers of what we do.â Their sound has transformed as well.
Their second album, âPolydistortionâ (1997), brought GusGus international acclaim, establishing them as one of Icelandâs most innovative electronic acts. Today, the band boasts 12 albums to their name â with their most recent release, âDanceOramaâ (2023), hailed as one of the finest records in their entire discography.
